Are you the same thing as the Richmond Symphony?
No, we are a completely separate musical organization. However, we love our friends at the Richmond Symphony and encourage you to try their concerts, too!
Are your concerts free?
The full orchestra presents a free holiday concert in early December and a free pops concert in mid-June. Also, small ensembles frequently perform for services at Grace Baptist Church and at events around town. These are usually announced on our Facebook page. Our Great Works concerts have a modest ticket price.
How much are tickets?
Tickets are $8 per adult in advance or $10 at the door. We love it when families come to our concerts, so kids 18 and under are always free!
Where are your concerts?
We perform in various locations in the Greater Richmond area. See our Music page for details.
How long is a concert?
Our Great Works concerts are typically between 1½ and 2 hours, including a 15-minute intermission. Our Pops concerts are 1 hour.
Do I have to dress up?
We believe that the music is the most important thing at our concerts, not the clothes. Although the musicians dress formally, audience members wear what makes them feel comfortable and happy.
How formal are your shows? Are there rules for the audience?
Your experience at one of our Great Works concerts will be typical of most classical music performances: people don’t talk or take flash photography during the music. The music is usually so intense or beautiful, you’ll want to focus on it! There is no rule about clapping, and nobody will get mad at you if you clap when you feel like it. Our Pops concerts are very informal.
Can I play with the Philharmonic?
We are excited when people ask to audition for us! Click here for details.
